So the text, as worthy as it is, comes at us with a peculiar flavour, and one that said to me a straighter approach would have taught us more. It's filled with facts about nature and wildlife, about camping in all kinds of environments, about necessary skills and safety when out on an adventure. Sometimes it was intricate and detailed, for example, showing in drawings the items that should be in a first aid kit. This book could help with their new adventures it is packed with information on wild camping, rafting, exploration, and shelters and dens, plus tips on first aid and tying knots. Peppered with awe-inducing snippets of a mysterious adventurer’s exploits and incredibly detailed explanations and diagrams, I found the level of detail in this book is quite astounding.

My feeling is that the Lost Book of Adventure could have each of us confident to survive outdoors in the wild, by June. It covers how to make a forest shelter, read a topographical map, and which foliage makes the best bedding.I received an Advanced Reader Copy from Lincoln Children's Books and Netgalley for my unbiased opinion of the book. This book was somewhat a throwback to my childhood which was spent happily exploring the countryside, building dens and having adventures. It’s really no surprise to hear this debut book attracted an incredible eight-publisher auction – meaning a substantial number of publishers each bargained to first publish the book.

This book is the illustration of every dream of exploration, like My Side of the Mountain, Swiss Family Robinson, and Peter Pan, in a visual encyclopedia. Expert instructions on wilderness basics, like building a fire, what to do if you get lost, and how to build various types of shelters are accompanied by more specific skills culled from many years of experience, like baking campfire bread, creating a toothbrush from a twig, making a suture from soldier ants, and even how to pan for gold. I’m learning a lot from this book, and though I found the small text a bit challenging in places it didn’t affect my overall impression of the book – and I have enjoyed the journey!I shall be shouting about it from the rooftops for days and I am currently recommending it to everyone I come in contact with! It is the reason to study to stars, the coast, to have knowledge of the desert, rivers, mountains and their inhabitants, flora and fauna.

The editor states: "Hopefully, it will inspire us all to step into the wild and live a life of adventure, too. If I had been given this book when I was younger, this would have been one of my most treasured books. I’d recommend it for all children and parents, but also for illustrators, scout leaders, teachers, anyone with wilderness in their soul, and anyone who wants to reconnect with the outdoors - even if only from their armchair. Drawing on Teddy’s knowledge of the outdoors, the pages of the sketchbooks have been carefully transcribed for young readers, as they were originally intended.Featuring tales of peril and danger weaved with practical tips, children can discover how to camp in the wild, create their own rafts, make different types of shelters with what the environment provides, first aid and essential supplies in an explorer’s kit. Thanks to Quarto Publishing/Frances Lincoln Children's Books and NetGalley for providing me with a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.

He cycles 6,000 miles through Africa, sketches birds in Papua, and confronts a bushmaster in Guyana. My reviews are honest and my opinions are my own; your reading experience may vary, so give it a read and see what you think. This would be a great gift for the explorer on your list, young or old, and I hope to see it join many school libraries. It's supposed to be a guide to outdoor living and exploration, so the reader can learn a heck of a lot, from knife safety and what kind of tin to pack, to how to cater for yourself up a creak without a paddle, and even how to make like a bear in the woods.
