Daily Express James dreams up a horrific intersection of extreme perversion and Internet technology in his frightening, expertly constructed second Det.

TV and film include The Crooked Man, Like Father Like Son, Great West End Theatres, three series of Heartbeat, Doctors and in development, Agent 160 and Oscar’s Boys. It is therefore down to the police to sort the wheat from the chaff and find out what is really going on with the deaths and kidnappings and who is responsible. When an unidentified Jane Doe is dredged up from the seabed of the English channel, Grace and his team are led into the murky world of an organised crime group masterminded by fixer Julia Giroux ( Joséphine de La Baume) and corrupt quack Roger Gunnislake ( Stephen Boxer), who are harvesting the organs of illegal immigrants for private sale. The official synopsis for the fourth episode, reads: "When in Dead Tomorrow a body is dredged up from the seabed of the English Channel it initially appears a burial at sea gone wrong, but a strange incision on the victim soon points to something very sinister. Roy Grace is a new, and very different detective, based in Brighton, in England – a city that is the favoured place to live in the UK for first divison criminals (I was told this by a former Chief Constable). While it initially appears to be a burial at sea gone wrong, a strange incision on the victim soon points to something very sinister.

As a result, it is not too difficult to work out the identity of the mysterious criminal mastermind. So I was ecstatic to learn his second novel in the Roy Grace series has been adapted into a stage play.

His enthusiasm remains undimmed after a surviving a horrendous high speed crash at Brands Hatch in 2013, although his publishers and his fans might prefer he took up a somewhat safer past-time – bowls, perhaps? Three of his novels, Prophecy, Alchemist and Host have also been filmed for television and ITV television produced the documentary, Babes In The Woods , hosted by Sir Trevor Macdonald ,which was inspired by the non-fiction book of the same title that Peter co-wrote with former Chief Superintendent Graham Bartlett.
