There’s a lot to say about U8H series, but the key takeaway is that Hisense provides great value here. While it doesn’t offer the same level of perfection as top OLED TVs, it bests them in terms of peak brightness, and the overall picture quality is great for the price. Add to that a fully loaded feature set, and the U8H is a TV option well worth consideration. Hisense U8H review: price and release dateHisense could also be spending less on R&D and tuning its TVs. It's not like all these brands put a few components in a thin plastic case and ship them all over the world. Each TV goes through tuning and quality control to make sure the picture and sound look as a good as possible. This is expensive and time-consuming, but how expensive and time-consuming really depends. Hisense could keep costs down by spending less time on this important step. One possible reason could be that Hisense is simply taking a bigger hit on its profits. Its TVs could cost the roughly the same to manufacture as everyone else's but its mark-up is smaller. Hisense is an enormous company that makes more than just TVs. It may be happy to turn a bigger profit in its other product areas while it makes a name for itself in TVs.

Like the U8K, this model has a very wide color gamut, so it's vibrant and colorful. It also has equally good image processing, which is very welcome for this mid-range model. Plus, it is compatible with both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, with the same DTS advanced audio format support as the more expensive Hisense, making this TV one of the cheapest home entertainment-ready TVs you can get. As of 2021, Hisense introduced gaming features like HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and variable refresh rate support to some higher-end TVs. Now, their higher-end TVs support up to 4k @ 144Hz, and even their cheaper models have advanced gaming features, such as VRR.That’s evident in the VIDAA U 4.0 smart portal, which is about as plain and simple a smart TV interface as you can find. All the main apps are covered, with Netflix occupying prime spot and followed by the likes of Prime Video, YouTube, Rakuten TV, BritBox as well as the various UK catch-up and on-demand apps with its Freeview Play integration. Percentage luminance drop at 20 degree vertical angle from the centre of the screen with 50% white output I’m less confident with its HDR10+ performance, however. A HDR10+ stream of 1917 on Prime Video looks close to – but less refined – than its disc-based counterpart. Smart Services are intended for use by persons sixteen (16) years of age or older. A total of four HDMI inputs are provided, with two offering HDMI 2.1 features such as 4K/120Hz support, variable refresh rate (VRR), and auto low latency mode (ALLM). Other gamer-friendly features include Freesync Premium Pro, and there’s also HDMI eARC support. All picture and sound adjustments (aside from volume and mute) must be accessed from their repective setup menus. On the picture side, along with local dimming there are advanced settings to tweak gamma and white balance, as well as a full color management system, although those adjustments are best left to calibration professionals. Regular viewers interested in getting the best picture quality for movies would do well to start with Filmmaker mode, and any adjustments you make there can also be applied to the set’s other inputs. Like other sets with Google TV, you can use Chromecast built-in to cast content from compatible apps to the TV from a phone or tablet. Bluetooth audio streaming is also supported, but there’s no Bluetooth output for listening with wireless headphones. When I reviewed the 55U8QFT it had a few issues, several of which have been ironed out since launch. However, the bigger screen highlights some remaining niggles and shines a light on some that I hadn’t spotted before.
