Description

The lifespan of grout paint depends on the product, how heavily the painted surface is used, and how well you maintain it. “Grout Renew treatment can last between five and eight years,” says Sole Alcaino, Senior Technical Service Specialist in the Care & Maintenance Division at Custom Building Products. To maintain clean and crisply colored painted grout: While the result of painting grout is well worth the effort, it’s a job you don’t want to repeat unnecessarily.

Applied correctly, Essential Perfect Grout not only gives you unbeatable coverage but the added assurance of long-term sealing power, and with a lifespan of around 15 years, you can feel confident that the grout in your bathroom or kitchen not only looks great but is also protected.

When to hire a professional tradesperson

Once you’ve applied your first coat, allow it to dry as per the manufacturer’s instructions before applying a second coat. As ever with a DIY project, the first step is all in the preparation. Make sure you’ve researched your paint colour, have all the tools and apparatus you need, and have set aside a good amount of time to get the job done, without feeling rushed.

Apply the sealant to the grout in smooth, even lines and allow it to dry as per the manufacturer’s instructions. Make sure the area you’re working in is well-ventilated and you’re wearing gloves to protect your hands. How to prepare your grout for painting Take a small amount of grout and add a few drops of paint to it. You can make a few versions with varying amounts of paint. Then, apply these testers to some scrap tile and let dry. Stage 1: Prime the grout surface area on both old and new installations with Grout Rescue Pre‑Treatment. Not sealing. Some people overlook the final step, which is to seal the grout after painting. Doing so will give the grout an extra layer of protection from stains, moisture, and wear & tearFor a great grout paint job that you’ll be proud of, be sure to prep, paint, and cure properly. PREPARATION But trust me on this. Giving you floor a good cleaning will prevent you from pulling stray hairs and fuzz balls out of freshly painted grout lines. Spray in Grout Rescue Pre-treatment and leave to dwell for the required time. Then agitate with a small brush to clean the grout lines and remove stubborn deposits.

If painting sanded grout, or if changing the color of either un-sanded or sanded grout to a lighter shade, apply several coats to get the desired color, allowing at least two hours of drying time between paint coats. (If painting un-sanded grout a darker color, a single coat is often enough.) Once the grout paint is completely dry and you’ve cleaned away the excess paint from the surface of the tiles, it’s time to seal the grout. It won’t dislocate tiles. Re-grouting entails removing old grout, which can weaken the bond between tiles and the wall, potentially dislocating tiles. Paint, on the other hand, has no effect on the tiles. The specialist grout paint is ultra-durable and water-resistant, perfect for standing up to muddy footprints. Available in 100+ colours and metallic Copper and Rose Gold finishes

Mistakes to avoid when painting grout

Gently squeeze the bottle to apply steadily and consistently onto the grout joint using your preferred application tool, eg a small, stiff brush or sponge working it evenly onto the grout surface. Wipe away any excess sealer from the tile surface within the timeframe established from the project test (as a guide, within 30 minutes or less). Work in small manageable areas whilst applying and cleaning down – your test patch will dictate when to halt application to remove excess. NOTE: Due to our improved formula’s high polymer strength, you must complete a test patch to determine how long the product can be left on the surrounding tiles. Depending on the type of tile, you may need to remove the product excess within 5-10 minutes or it may be possible to leave up to 30 minutes – note, if left too long it will be extremely difficult to remove.

When you first have new tiles installed in your bathroom or kitchen they look spectacular and can totally transform the room. Whether you choose ceramic, porcelain, slate or one of the many other stylish choices available today, both modern and traditional homes can be transformed with a little imagination, but after a few years that lovely clean and fresh finish can start to look tired and faded. Aged, stained or yellowing grouting between the tiles can have a big impact on the overall effect, making walls and floors appear grubby and worn. Avoid Using An Inferior Grout Dye Or Grout Pen When painting grout, we recommend testing your chosen paint colour on an inconspicuous area first. 1. MixUsing a damp sponge and a clean dry cloth, remove any remaining Grout Rescue Pre-treatment to make sure the surface is clear of artefacts and completely dry for the next stage.
