TOP TIP: Place the cut side of the strawberries facing outwards in the glass bowl for a pretty effect. Step 5 - Spoon Over The Custard Did you just get that last-minute invite to a soiree, and now need to find a showstopper dessert to prepare? Don’t have time to make a dessert from scratch? Fear not, I’ve found your solution: the trifle.

Show-stopping dessert - this dessert may look picture perfect sitting high and mighty on the table in a glass trifle bowl... but don't be fooled! Once this elegant trifle is served, the layers become a deliciously messy feast!Cake: You can use lots of different cakes to make trifle recipe. My Applesauce Cake, Eggless Vanilla Cake and Eggless Chocolate Cake are some great options. You can also use day old cake or buy cake from the supermarket or bakery. Cointreau (or fruit juice) - drizzling liquid over the cake helps to soften and flavour it. If you're preparing an adults-only dessert then use Cointreau. However, if like me, you're catering for both adults and children, simply substitute the Cointreau for a fruit juice (like cranberry, orange or apple juice). Layering – Best tip here is to slow down and be careful. Take your time when layering the cream on the custard in particular. Have a light hand as you spread it around so you don’t end up pushing the cream into the custard. Add one third (approximately 1 and 1/3 cups) of the fresh berries on top of the cake, along with half of the jelly squares. Then, pour over 1 cup of custard.

This fun layered dessert is English and it is traditionally made with fruit, alcohol-soaked sponge cake, and custard. The great thing about trifle pudding it can be made in so many different ways to suit your taste. My recipe is alcohol-free and includes custard, whipped cream, and fruits such as pomegranates, bananas, apples, and fresh figs. Serving – A long handled ladle or spoon is best to scoop through all the layers and dish up each serving with an even amount of each layer. No-Bake Chocolate Cheesecake - a classic chocolate cheesecake that looks elegant and tastes amazing. The ultimate dessert. The final layer of your trifle is the cream. For peace of mind, Granny recommends using whipping cream; as it is easier to whip without the risk of over-whipping. However, I tend to find that whipping cream isn’t as readily available, compared to double cream. For that reason, I have listed double cream as a choice too. Both give fabulous results, just be cautious not to over-whip your double cream! (Or use whipping cream if you’re concerned).Don't be fooled by the many layers of Strawberry Trifle... it's a super simple dessert to assemble (and a great recipe to get the kids involved with). Gently place spoonfuls of whipped cream over the custard. Then using a fork, very lightlyspread the cream to cover the custard and make the third and final layer.

Pour over another 1 cup of custard. Scatter the remaining fruit over the top. Cover the top with plastic wrap and leave in the fridge for at least 4-6 hours or even better, overnight. Trifle. Have you had it before? Living here in Australia, Trifle is something of a staple, especially around the holidays. And always when you have a hungry crowd to feed. Next comes the fruit. Since Christmas is in summer here in Australia, berries are usually in season. My favourite combination is strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and even some cherries. You can use your favourite fruit, but using fresh fruit is best. As mentioned above, you will want a few harmonious ingredients that can make distinctive and tasty layers. Here’s what we used for this trifle, but please note you may need more of each item, depending on the size and shape of your vessel. IngredientsTop with fresh fruit such as strawberries and blueberries and Optional: dust with a light sprinkle of icing sugar to finish. You can really customise trifle to your liking and to what you have available to you, but follow the basic thread – cake, soak, fruit, jelly, custard – repeat. The final touch? Clouds of whipped cream. Editor’s tip: Place slices of fruit flush against the wall of the trifle dish for a striking visual. Step 5: Repeat No-bake recipe - one of the best things about trifle is that it's a simple chilled dessert so there's no need to turn the oven on - making it a perfect option for entertaining during a hot Aussie summer! It’s one of those no-fuss desserts that are really fun to throw together – and much easier than something like a Pavlova. And there are basically no rules! It’s supposed to be messy but oh-so-tasty, you’ll be reaching for seconds. WHAT IS TRIFLE?
