The Service provides online access to a range of titles published by Coordination Group Publications Ltd. (CGP). This Agreement covers access to the Service regardless of the device or network you access it through. By using the Service you agree to be bound by this Agreement. Please refer to this Agreement before adding more titles to your CGP Online Editions account (Your Account). 1. Licence So, without further ado, let’s begin by breaking down what A-Level maths is. A Level Maths: An Overview A Code must be redeemed before the title it is linked to can be accessed. An unredeemed Code may be transferred to another person or organisation who can then redeem it.

Anywho, A Level maths allows you to decide whether you fall more on the side of a pure mathematician or an applied mathematician as you get to study both. Pure maths is kind of like the foundations of maths. For example, two great mathematicians, Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz, famously discovered calculus, a topic you will delve deep into when studying pure maths. You will learn the basic but essential tools and techniques for differentiating and integrating functions among more. However, when studying applied maths, you will use calculus to work out the acceleration of a moving object, given its velocity. Essentially, the applied mathematician takes what the pure mathematician has already discovered and does something useful with it. Now, something super fun about A-Level maths is it provides a great excuse to buy a brand new calculator. What’s wrong with your old one, you ask? Well… when studying statistics, you learn about different types of statistical distributions. In year one, this includes the binomial distribution. This new calculator will have a handy function that works out binomial values for you. So, in summary, it will make your life much easier in the near future if you get one. Some graphics calculators are not allowed to be used in A-Level maths exams, so you must get the right one. Some can also be rather expensive. Here is the cheapest and best-recommended one for the course. Law and Disputes If you become aware of any unauthorised use of Your Account, you must notify us immediately. 5. Termination Another recommendation is the CGP book: Head Start to A Level Maths. This also has a range of practice questions and examples, which would be great to work through before beginning your course. The objective is to be as confident as possible in these topics before starting the course since the course will build further on these topics. Getting ahead Accessing a CGP Online Edition by using a code from a printed CGP book grants you access to the title for three years from the date of activation of the code.

By using the CGP Online Edition or accessing an Online Edition title you agree to be bound by the full Terms and Conditions. Users of CGP Online Editions So, the first reason A-Level maths is so great is that it is broken down into two units: pure and applied. Now, there are two types of mathematicians out there. There are the pure mathematicians (the weirdos) and the applied mathematicians (the cool maths people, like myself). ii. In no event will we be liable to you for any indirect or consequential damages, or loss of income. In particular, we accept no liability for any programs or data made or stored with the service nor for the costs of recovering or replacing such programs or data. Nothing in this Agreement limits liability for fraudulent misrepresentation or our liability to you in the event of death or personal injury resulting from our negligence or that of our employees agents or sub-contractors. 10. Third PartiesWith the summer holidays in full swing, A-Levels may be the last thing on your mind. However, if you are starting to get a bit bored during what might be your longest (and hottest) summer ever, why not dust off those old maths books and get a head start with A-Level maths? To confirm, that previous question was supposed to be rhetorical… A-Levels are linear, which means all the content you’ve studied in both Year 12 and Year 13 will be assessed in exams at the end of the course. Exams for A-Level students usually take place in May and June, so it’s important to make sure you plan ahead and start early to give yourself plenty of time to revise. The Agreement and the access granted to use the Service automatically terminate if you fail to comply with any part of this Agreement. Termination of the Agreement (howsoever occasioned) shall not affect any accrued rights or liabilities of either party. iv. You may not sub-licence, assign, rent, lease or transfer your accesses. 3. Below are links to the year one textbook for each exam board. The course books are amazing because they provide hundreds of practice questions and examples you can work through. Now, the thing you have probably come to this blog post for. How can you prepare for a level of maths? There are a few particular topics that you should be confident with before beginning your course. They include: i. Our liability to you for any losses shall not exceed the amount you originally paid for the service. You are responsible for ensuring that, prior to the use of the Service by your employees, agents or students, all such parties are notified of and agree to the terms of this Agreement.

Applied maths is usually broken down into statistics and mechanics. However, some exam boards allow you to study discrete (also known as decision) maths in year 2.This is like the mathematics behind computer algorithms, gaming etc. Exam boards Suppose you are confident with these topics and want to get ahead of the game. In that case, you could start reading through the material in your relevant A-Level maths textbook by trying to follow some of the examples and looking through the practice questions. You could also head over to exam solutions for some practice problems and video solutions. ii. You may use the Service and any titles for your own personal use, including but not limited to study, classroom teaching, lesson planning or in-school training. Codes are used to transfer access provisions to other users. School customers will be given Codes on printed vouchers so they can provide students with access to titles.
