Description

I loved every paragraph, every sentence and every word of this masterpiece! I was totally hooked' NetGalley reviewer,

The side characters are a mix of good and bad and unreliable ones. They made the whole puzzle much more interesting and added character to the story. This is not a novel that will set the pulses racing as its tone mirrors the lead character, DCI James Walker. It is calm and methodical with no drama, except the final showdown, but even that has little tension.

DI Walker is now DCI Walker, and it is near Christmas again and he wonders if he is going to have a quite time over the festive period. But the quiet life is short lived when he gets a call from a woman who says her husband and three of his friends gone on a hike in the Lake district and they haven’t returned home, and she worried about their safety.

While I like most of the parts in the story with short chapters, great setting and likeable characters, I found the story a bit dragging during the middle part. What I love most about Alex Pines books is that 1 I am always drawn in right from the start and 2 I never know what direction they will take me in. I had my suspicions throughout the book over who the murderer could be then right at the end there was a massive twist that through a grenade in my theory and I was completely stunned by this. DCI Walker continues to shine as a compelling character, possessing the invaluable qualities of level-headedness and composure, especially in the face of crisis. These attributes contribute significantly to his appeal and the narrative's coherence. Special thanks to NetGalley, HarperCollins UK Audio, Avon, and the editorial team for giving me the opportunity to review the ARC in audiobook format and to you, my reader, for taking the time to read this honest personal book review. As DC Abbott is spending a relaxing New Years Eve with her fiancée Sean; attending the wedding of a mutual friend at a posh hotel on the shore of the gorgeous Lake Windermere. When she finds herself at the centre of a murder investigation after the maid of honour disappears during the reception and is later found floating in the lake.As James as his team begin to investigate it doesn’t take long for them to realise that the home of one of the hunters has been trashed and the word murders is written on the wall. To James and his team it looks as though it could be the work of an anti-hunting party.
