Darwin saying "It's a trap!" is a direct reference to the famous Star Wars quote. The quote originated from Return of the Jedi. The position Felicity and Billy are in when they ram into the metal door is a reference to when Han Solo is frozen in carbonite. Billy throwing cans at the Wattersons while making laser sounds is a direct reference to Darth Vader attempting to shoot down the Rebel ships in A New Hope.Richard mentions a " holiday special" before the nerd-off. This is a direct reference to the much-maligned 1978 television special The Star Wars Holiday Special. After being hit by a can thrown by Billy, Richard makes a noise that is similar to a sound that R2-D2 makes. Gumball says "I've got a bad feeling about this!", a recurring quote throughout the franchise in general.

The bird bar Anton accidentally enters resembles the Mos Eisley cantina from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Richard saying he adopted Darwin only to be able to say that he has two sons is a reference to planet Tatooine, which orbits around two suns.Nicole says that Richard made her watch Stellar Odyssey when she was giving birth to Anais, but in " The Rival," she gives birth in a few seconds. Stellar Odyssey is a title parody of the Star Wars film series. The Force Rehashed is a parody of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and its similarities to Star Wars: A New Hope. The persona Gumball assumes while sending the fake Stellar Odyssey review to Julius is a direct reference to Boogie2988, a YouTube vlogger known for his rants on game and nerd culture. In the Swedish dub of the episode, its name is incorrectly stated during the title card as "Listan" ("The List"). Nicole's comment on the movie, "Why do you all care so much about a movie where a guy hangs out with a whistling trash can, hates his robot dad, and kisses his sister?" alludes to a few Star Wars characters. The "whistling trash can" is a reference to the droid character R2-D2, the main character's robot dad is a reference to Darth Vader, and the fact mentioned about the main character kissing his sister refers to the few times Luke and Leia kiss.

This is the fourth episode not written by Ben Bocquelet. The first three episodes were " The Vacation," " The Law," and " The Potato." Richard saying that their car made the school run in twelve minutes is a reference to how the Millennium Falcon made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs (shown in its entirety in Solo: A Star Wars Story). We are pretty sure that all droids like tea. This is obviously why they created a Star Wars R2-D2 teapot patterned after our favorite droid, R2-D2.
