Rose thought this beautiful egg was “one of the prettiest we’ve seen” and the rest of the team certainly agreed. With a striking white chocolate brush design, and slightly elongated shape, this was unique. Like the M&S and Waitrose ranges, Salisbury’s have opted for a contemporary shape this year, and while we thought the designs from competing retailers were cleaner, we liked that this one was a touch more glitzy. All of these chocolate bars are gluten free and made without sugar, dairy or soya. Enjoy a 100% Dark Chocolate bar that is perfect for those following no sugar diets, vegans and for making healthy food choices. More chocolate, less sugar sums this range up perfectly and as always we encourage eating more than one square! These 100% cocoa chocolates are highly recommended for treat day! Not only do we offer dark vegan chocolate, but we also have our wonderfully creamy vegan milk chocolate alternative, Like No Udder. Our wonderful creation that’s as possibly close as you can get to milk chocolate without going near a cow! Another one I haven't had a chance to try yet, but these gluten free pork pies from Asda look lovely. I can't actually remember the last time I had a pork pie so I will definitely have to test them out. M&S gluten free lemon cheesecake

Even if you’re more of a fan of larger Easter eggs, we seriously recommend that you give these a try – they won’t last long, so we suggest you grab at least a couple of bags!Since eating eggs traditionally was not allowed during Holy Week (the week leading up to Easter), those that were laid were decorated and given to children as gifts. The Victorians added the idea of wrapping up boxes filled with small treats and gifts and then at some point some bright spark saw an opportunity to replace eggs (which not everyone likes) with chocolate (which everyone loves). Hey presto! The gift of a chocolate Easter egg was born, and with it the ritual of chipping a segment off the chocolate shell, tipping out the buttons, and finding somewhere quiet where you can secretly gorge on chocolatey goodness. And as we’ve now established, this is not an exclusive privilege for the milk chocolate brigade - in fact, dark chocolate vegan Easter eggs would have been around before milk chocolate. Our Milk Chocolate Alternative Range There’s currently a focus on plant-based eating in the chocolate sector. Manufacturers have responded to the growing interest in plant-based diets by replacing dairy milk with nut-or-grain-derived milks in milk chocolate products,” said Marcia Mogelonsky, director of Mintel’s GNPD (Global New Products Database) Insight. Not only is it ‘eggstraordinary’ large but it’s made with our 74% rich, organic dark chocolate with tantalising sweet orange oil.

Artisanal chocolate brand Montezuma’s has unveiled its Easter lineup – including two new dark chocolate products positioned as vegan-friendly. Each egg was assessed first and foremost on taste, and while the markers of quality were slightly different for each category of chocolate, we were looking for a balanced sweetness, melt in the mouth, rich flavour and creaminess across all categories. Beyond these foundations, we looked for a good ‘snap’, and for flavoured eggs we considered the quality - did it taste natural or synthetic - and how distinctive the flavour. Bonus marks were awarded for originality. We have a great selection of handmade chocolate truffle collections, including our best selling mixed collection that we call The Grand Collection, named after the Grand Hotel in Brighton!

Montezuma's peanut butter eggs Our Woman&Home food team - consisting of Food Director Jen Bedloe, Food Editor Jess Meyer, Deputy Food Editor Rose Fooks and Junior Food Writer Georgia Sparks - made up the main tasting panel for our big Easter egg taste test 2023. An Easter egg that looks like a coconut! This gorgeous offering from London based chocolatier Melt will introduce a touch of theatrical flare to your Easter festivities. As much as we’d love to take credit for inventing the vegan Easter egg - vegan chocolate has actually been around for thousands of years. In fact, the chocolate that the Mayans and Aztecs were savouring at the height of their empires was exclusively dairy-free dark chocolate, so right from the start chocolate was vegan. Tell that to the next person who says that you’re “missing out” on “real” chocolate. Not until the late 19th century did milk chocolate arrive on the scene. And if you’ve been subjected to one of those super-sweet, cloying and additive-filled bars that sit next to the crisps in the corner shop, you’ll know that the Mayans and the Aztecs had the right idea about what makes good chocolate. Why do we eat chocolate eggs at Easter? Besides these fun faces, there are other offerings in the range for Easter, including a more traditional egg that is paired with some Percy sweets. While this was nice, our testers unanimously agreed that the characters are the better buy.
