I really liked most of the fantasy elements in this dark story; it checks off a lot of my "boxes," so to speak. If she’s not writing, then you’re almost certain to find her reading—ideally with a cup of tea in hand and a scented candle burning to match the mood. When given the opportunity to offer herself up as a bride to broker a treaty, she figured maybe she could find her place in the shadow world.

For me however, I want more story in between, and less detail as it goes on, so for starters, it doesn’t feel so repetitive, and for second, not so ordinary and boring.Just like Ophelia, Allerick had a tendency to assume things without communicating, keeping his worries to himself, avoiding conversations. There is a lot of miscommunications between the MCs though, but tbh it didn’t bother me as much as it usually does. His non-communication, lack of emotional aftercare for the most part (even if it was due to his own insecurities about her and this union) made me like him marginally less, since so much could have been found out through a little extra conversation. Colette studied both History and Ancient History at university and loves including both historical facts and ancient mythology in her work.I think the universe created in this book had a unique appeal, with good characters and an interesting concept. luckily their POVs were entertaining and endearing enough to distract me from the potential it had to be more than what it is. I sighed quietly to myself, surveying my surroundings instead since apparently I wasn’t going to get railed in my wedding dress any time soon. Usually when there's some form of miscommunication, it drives up the angst, doing its best to frustrate me. Are you telling me,” Allerick said slowly, carefully collecting up my drawings and setting them on the nightstand, “that you have been wet and wanting since our wedding, wife?

I’ve never hated my claws before, but now I want to rip them off at each meal so I can bury soft fingers in your cunt while you eat. Cast out and living among the humans, Ophelia has been summoned to take part in a treaty between the Hunters and the Shades.

She even made the grave sin of committing some X-rated monster thoughts to paper-which in hindsight may not have been the best. VERY curious about the next book - the way the end of this one was set up I'm hoping to see a specific couple take center stage in the next one. She’s authentic, blunt and so freakin hilarious(her inner dialogue had me rolling on the floor laughing).

Hunters will stop killing Shades as long as they feed in designated areas, and the King of the Shades will take a Hunter as his bride. Safe; no virgins, no OM drama, slight OW drama from a woman who wants the hero but he doesn’t want her, no scenes with OM/OW, no cheating. An arranged marriage between a human and a monster, with some smell kink and lots of miscommunication. The beginning of the story was fun and engaging, the middle was a bit slow paced and the ending was rushed and unsubstantial. If you’ve been drawing other Shades fucking my wife, wearing my crown,'—shit—'then I’m going to have to kill some of my own subjects, Queen Ophelia.
