The mystery/suspense feels very guessable but has enough surprises and twists to keep you on your toes.

We who are shaped and mutate through our good and bad experiences, and sometimes unrecognisable but certainly different from our earlier decades. Now separated from her husband and living in the isolation of her far-too-quiet home, Isabelle’s every waking hour (of which there are many) is dedicated to tracking down her son. Despite her initial reluctance she also agrees to participate in a true-crime podcast hosted by Waylon Spencer, who has been successful in solving a cold case in the past and who was one of the attendees at a conference in which Isabelle speaks about her son’s disappearance. Aside from the occasional drift or 'microsleep,' she's been battling her bleary eyed grief and dedicated herself to trying to bring Mason home.I dig my hand into my purse and pull out a bottle of eye drops—redness relief—and squirt three beads of liquid into each eye with expert precision. Stacy Willingham delves into the complicated and dark corners of her characters’ lives, peeling back their secrets bit by bit—and she gives us a front-row seat for the process. I really enjoyed Stacy Willingham’s previous book, A Flicker in the Dark so this was an easy pick for me, and I think it just might have the edge too! As this is advertised as a thriller in every blurb and almost every review, I was hoping for something fast and high-octane.

Because long before Isabelle lost Mason, she lived with her mother, father and sister, until something happened, something that was covered up and never spoken about. I walk past him, to the edge of the stage, and stand behind a black curtain, the audience just barely obscured from view.I devoured ALL THE DANGEROUS THINGS over my holiday break this year, and found this to be one of those rare books that genuinely is impossible to put down. Sorry,” I say, shaking my head, as if the motion could somehow clear the fog like windshield wipers swiping at rain.

She lives in Charleston, South Carolina, with her husband, Britt, and Labradoodle, Mako, where she is always working on her next book. I felt the characters grow on me from the first page and I was completely engrossed in their story, wondering what had happened and considering many options but none prepared me for what had actually happened in the dramatic ending. What her first novel may have lacked in terms of the final 'whodunit' surprise (which was probably the only weak thing about it! As the two begin to work together, Isabel will begin to wonder if the events from her childhood could possibly be connected to Mason’s disappearance. After all, there are still some who think SHE’S behind Mason’s disappearance, and a tragic event from her past isn’t helping. Her repeated sleepwalking episodes were a mystery to her parents and troubling to her little sister, Margaret, who adored her big sister but was frightened by these behaviors. I thought the timeline was a bit all over the place sometimes, but I really enjoyed certain aspects of the writing, the plot, and the overall feel of the book.
