Released by Geffen Records in part because of the delay in the making of Chinese Democracy, the album was subject to lawsuits by band member Axl Rose and former band members, in an attempt to block its release due to its track listing. There are no hidden insights into the inner workings of the group, no lost classics, and no evidence of their contribution to a new generation of musicians. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Axl Rose immediately tried to block the release by suing Geffen, saying it would ruin his focus on Chinese Democracy and if he were to get the album finished and released sooner, the Greatest Hits album would be selling more, leaving the album unnoticed.

Despite the album having almost no promotion it reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and number three on the Billboard 200 chart upon it's release. were more the illegitimate offspring of earlier, poodle-haired LA monstrosities such as Motley Crue. The vinyl is flawless and sounds amazing no pops or crackles it sounds so much better than the cd version. On September 25, 2020, Guns N’ Roses’ 2004, multi-platinum best of compilation Greatest Hits will be released on vinyl for the first time. The clue's in three of the first four tracks (''Welcome To The Jungle'', ''Sweet Child O' Mine'', ''Patience''). All lifted from their breakthrough album Appetite For Destruction they show a band who, although they hated each other and had a singer with a voice like Bruce Dickinson on steroids, still knew that if you had a good riff and a lovely melody there was no stopping you. With the five-years-in-gestation Chinese Democracy album by single remaining G'n'R member (Axl Rose) reaching mythical status, and with gigs cancelled and the band in disarray, Geffen have little choice but to offer us this album. Of course being notorious for your anti-social behaviour and third world-supporting drug habit is a pretty good excuse for a low work rate.

And while the covers of the The Spaghetti Incident were largely forgettable, the fact that their final single was a seedy sneer through the Rolling Stones' "Sympathy for the Devil" seems spectacularly fitting. The album received mixed reviews, with several critics complaining of the track listing, feeling several notable songs were missing.Despite the album having almost no promotion, it reached number one on the UK Albums Chart [1] and number three on the Billboard 200 chart upon its release. As Axl Rose wails "I wanna watch you bleed" on "Welcome to the Jungle", like a chain-smoking lunatic possessed, it's hard not to believe he meant it. Pitchfork criticized the compilation for having too many covers, as well as not including songs such as " Out Ta Get Me", "Used to Love Her", and " One in a Million". Greatest Hits is one of the longest charting albums in the Billboard 200 era, [5] being one of only seven albums to notch at least 400 weeks on the chart by June 2017. Yet equally, it was his surprisingly poetic nature that made genuinely touching love songs of "Patience" and "Sweet Child of Mine".

For a while I have been considering re-purchasing one or more of these albums, so was delighted to come across this greatest hits compilation.

I'm sure over time I will remember more songs from those albums, but for now this has filled the revolver shaped hole in my music collection. Greatest Hits spans the group’s five album releases, including their cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy For The Devil” for the 1995 film Interview With The Vampire.

Their Stone Roses-challenging work rate makes for slim pickings for any would-be compiler, so no one's going to be surprised at the tracks on offer here.

Though none of their subsequent albums matched the drug-crazed genius of Appetite for Destruction , they did, as the Greatest Hits reminds, have their moments. Gunners, time to get your hands on the first-ever 1LP pressing of the Greatest Hits featuring 8 songs including “Hard Skool”.
