Palate: Silky, honeyed, lightly spiced palate with saffron, ginger, cardamom, cloves and citrus zestiness.

Originally created and produced in Normandy, France as an elixir for monks to help maintain their work, Benedictine DOM is also the world’s first branded liqueur medicine. None of the botanicals used to make it dominates the blend and it is not medicinal like other herbal liqueurs. In 1863 Alexandre Le Grand developed a recipe for an herbal liqueur, helped by a local chemist, from old medicinal recipes that he had acquired from a religious foundation where a maternal grandparent had held office as a fiscal prosecutor. Their Sambuca is an infusion of green Sicilian aniseed, plump Paduan elderberries and the purest grain alcohol. One was the original formula for this unique herbal liqueur, which was apparently intended to revive tired monks. To market it, he embellished a story of it having been developed by monks at the Benedictine Abbey of Fécamp in Normandy, and produced by them until the abbey's devastation during the French Revolution. Bénédictine selects product ingredients from the five continents with quality as the sole criterion of choice.

Bénédictine was created in 1510, in the Abbey of Fécamp, by an old Bénédictine monk, Dom Bernardo Vincelli, a scholar and an alchemist, and was consumed as a tonic and a medicinal elixir. Benedictine French liqueur offers a light herbal, spicy fragrance with aromas of dried fruits, a drier palate with soft woody notes, and a mild finish of honey.

Instead, it has the flavor of sweet honey accented with holiday spices, stone fruits, and an herbal nuance. While the exact 27 ingredients in Benedictine are a closely held secret, they lend the liqueur plenty of herbal complexity. Bénédictine uses a neutral spirit base with a barely noticeable honey taste while Drambuie is dominated by a scotch and honey foundation.

Well, let’s start with the fact that Bénédictine is made up of a secret blend of 27 herbs and spices that includes saffron, cinnamon, angelica, hyssop, juniper and myrrh from five continents! In The Benediction, for instance, half a shot of Bénédictine and a dash of orange bitters are topped with Champagne in a flute then garnished with a lemon twist. v=1688409076","options":["Title"],"media":[{"alt":null,"id":34462046126393,"position":1,"preview_image":{"aspect_ratio":1. The recipe of Bénédictine is a commercial secret, but it is known to contain 27 herbs and spices, of which the following 21 are publicly known: [ citation needed] angelica, hyssop, juniper, myrrh, saffron, mace, fir cones, aloe, arnica, lemon balm, tea, thyme, coriander, clove, lemon, vanilla, orange peel, honey, red berries, cinnamon, and nutmeg. The storied French liqueur lends its honeyed, herbal notes to classic cocktails like the Vieux Carré, Benedictine and Brandy, and Singapore Sling.
