For example with my TRN VX Pro which is already natively wide sounding, I am hearing effortless headroom of soundstage that can make me forget I am listening to an IEM. On the front of RU6 you will find 1” OLED screen display to view playback info, such as sampling rate, volume level, gain setting, and NOS or OS oversampling mode.

It may not make sense to plug a dongle into a DAP but considering the very different hardware inside and the low power consumption on the RU6, it may rejuvenate some old DAPs. Safeguard signal integrity makes sure the noise from the reference clock and DSP will not bleed intro amplification circuit. However I reckon that being Analogue it would probably mean RU6 will likely score terribly with measurements. The RU6 is plug'n play compatible with all USB-OTG devices (iOS and Android), Mac OS, Windows PC through the available driver and it can also be connected to Digital audio players that support USB out.My two top pairs - IER-Z1R and UM Mest - so perfect: well controlled bass, improved vocals , enlarged sound stage and 3D. In this post, we review the Cayin RU6 which is the first-ever 24BIT discreet R-2R implemented dongle-type portable DAC and headphone amplifier. USB-C connection offers compatibility with a wide range of phones, consumer electronics and computers. At the top of the device there are the two headphone outputs and at the bottom lies the USB type C socket. Another optional accessory which I highly recommend is their leather case which comes in blue and orange colors.

There are no pops when powering the dongle on or off which adds to the refinement of the overall user experience. This safeguards the audio signal integrity and ensures the noise from the reference clock and DSP do not bleed into the amplification circuit.R-2R is famous for its natural and realistic sound signature, and it’ll offer a very different experience to music lovers.

According to Cayin, that presented a challenge of picking the volume control with higher precision, lower noise, and less power consumption. As a result, OS mode offers better measurable performance, however, it can be argued that the purer signal provided by NOS mode introduces fewer artefacts, phase distortion and jitter. I do not get any hits of BA timbre and they image well, especially depth and separation (which is interesting considering that a single full-range BA handles everything from the midbass up to the upper treble).I use it exclusively with conventional home stereo systems - feeding the signal into a preamp - with a Jitterbug between the PC source and the DAC. You'll have a small interruption/pop every 10 volume steps but it isn't much of an annoyance and is normal. Disclaimer: The Cayin RU6 was sent to us free of charge by Cayin directly in exchange for this review.

This architecture minimises power drain from the mobile source allowing you to enjoy music without the need to worry about battery drain.Perhaps from critical standpoint, I find Ovidius B1, Apogee Groove and CEntrance DACport HD closer to being organic sounding, but RU6 is definitely there among these three Dongles that I loved so much. Hi, saying “RU6 does have a more natural warmth and body while W2 tilts the scale in the opposite direction while being more transparent and more revealing” did you use NOS or OS mode on RU6 while comparing?
