Inspired by the mums' culinary invention the Bikers cook up a great duo of savoury pies, and a divine lemon curd Swiss roll. The Hairy Bikers: Mums Know Best is a celebration of the very best of home cooking in Britain. Si and Dave have toured the nation hunting out Britain's lost family recipes - those forgotten gems and secret scribbles that have been handed down through the generations but are in danger of being lost forever. Heat 2 tablespoons of the oil in a large frying pan. Brown the oxtail over a medium heat for about 10 minutes, turning every now and then, until dark brown all over. You may need to add extra oil if the pan looks dry at any point during the browning step. Put the browned oxtail into a flameproof casserole dish. (You may need to do this in batches.) The bikers are on the hunt for family classics - those recipes which are a firm favourite in every household and are requested time and again by every member of the family. Their celebration of family food ends up (as all good celebrations do) in a field filled with nearly 200 mums tasting and sharing each others' family-favourite cooking.

Si and Dave comment: "Well here we go! What a treat, food with a load of love! Great British food from the custodians of culinary traditions, our Mams, Grannies and Dads. We have rummaged in the bottom drawers, cupboards and memories of houses and families across the nation for their secrets, recipes and top cooking tips. It’s been a great party. We’ve been around the world, baked ourselves into a frenzy and nibbled and cooked some of the best food in the country. Now it’s time for something really special, truly delicious food from the people who know best". Like generations of farmers' wives before her, our first mum Polly has to feed her hungry husband and kids every night, so the recipes she shares have been tried and tested countless times over the years. Her beef and honey stew, and lamb and mint sausages never fail to impress. The Hairy Bikers Veggie Feasts: Over 100 Delicious Vegetarian and Vegan Recipes, Full of Flavour and Meat Free! Add the beef mince to the pan and cook with the vegetables for 4-5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the meat is browned all over. The Hairy Bikers' British Classics: Over 100 Recipes That Celebrate Simple, Timeless Cooking and the Nation’s Favourite DishesHalf-fill a large pan with cold water. Add the potatoes and bring to the boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for about 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are very soft. The Hairy Bikers’ One Pot Wonders: Over 100 Delicious New Favourites, from Terrific Tray Bakes to Roasting Tin Treats!

From a classic cheese pie and 'rumpy-pumpy soup' to samosas and a world of fantastic cakes, the Hairy Bikers sample them all and, inspired by the cooking of these mums, they take a trip down memory lane to cook their own family favourite recipes.

An irresistible collection of recipes that will inspire you to keep cooking with love for the people that matter to you most. When Hairy Bikers, Si and Dave, toured the country in search of ordinary Mums and their families' favourite recipes, they had no idea they would unearth such a wealth of talent, tradition and nostalgia. So began their search for the dishes we love best. This beautiful cookbook brings together over 100 of the nation's favourite recipes from the second series of BBC2's MUMS KNOW BEST. It includes Si and Dave's personal family recipes as well as their favourite recipes that they discover through the mums they meet and the recipe fairs they hold. Episodes include Comforting Food, High Tea, School Dinners and Al Fresco. But it's also a call to arms; the series aims to bring together grannies, mums and daughters who love to cook, to ensure that these precious historical documents of our shared national cuisine are preserved for the future.

If your favourite meals are made using the tried and tested method of other home cooks, you'll be pleasantly surprised by this diverse selection of recipes. Nothing connects you to home like the smell of the food your mum used to cook, so the Hairy Bikers visit three mums to share their unique taste of home. Wash the oxtail pieces and pat dry with kitchen paper. Trim off as much excess fat as possible. Put the flour in a freezer bag and season well with salt and pepper. Put half the oxtail pieces into the seasoned flour, toss well to coat then set aside on a plate. Repeat with the remaining oxtail pieces. Spoon the mash over the mince mixture in the ovenproof dish, working towards the middle from the outside. Smooth with a palette knife. When all the mince is covered with mash, create patterns on the surface using a fork.

Lisa is playing culinary detective, enlisting the help of the Bikers to uncover the mysteries of a family recipe book that hasn't been cooked with for years. The tasty results include simple meat patties and some great sweet-treats called diggers. The Hairy Bikers' Food Tour of Britain: Delicious Regional Recipes from the Nation's Favourite Cooking Duo and 30 of the UK's Top Chefs Each week's Recipe Fair has a different theme such as Sunday Dinners, Show Off Dinners, Picnics, Birthday Parties, Family Favourites and Good Simple Suppers, and all the recipes fit into that theme. At the heart of each is the Mums Know Best Banquet, catered by three ''VIP Mums' who showcase a great family recipe that needs to be shared with the nation.
