Description

You cannot blend them or completely erase them, and I think these only work best when mixed with water, very much like the Derwent Inktense pencils. The muted colours with the shimmer make for some attractive effects, but again, it’s not ideal when you consider that most artists would prefer to only have metallic effects in some areas of a painting rather than the whole thing. One thing I have noticed in my time reviewing Derwent products, quality control is most certainly not an issue. I don't normally list the colours in my written reviews, mainly because I can review sets that have 120 colours in them.

Derwent range their products on a scale of 0-8 for lightfastness, with 6 and above being considered very lightfast.

I’ve not conducted my own lightfastness test with the pans yet, but the tests I did with some of the pencils showed about half the colour saturation lost within 7 days of starting my test (with the charts pinned to my front window) and the colour was completely gone after a month, so it’s safe to assume a test with the pans would have a similar outcome. Once dry it turns into a dark grey and it may be best to apply the black pencil dry to keep it's strength.

in Europe, for the set of 12 Derwent Graphitint it will cost €17 and for the 24 set it will cost €38. If used dry they produce grey shadings with subdued hues but just add water and the colours become bolder and richer. Graphite and colour combine to create this unique formulation of watercolour pencil pigments and graphite. Along the gunmetal coloured barrel of the Graphitint pencil, reading from core tip to end cap is the location of the production; England. When used dry the graphite is the strongest tone with a suggestion of colour, once wetted the colour becomes more vibrant and changes into rich earthy tones.I decided to apply clean water to each colour individually to avoid over blending or bleeding and found the colours dried lighter than the application was applied. This set comes in small, durable plastic case - ideally sized for travel - and includes a mini waterbrush, a sponge and five mixing palettes. So to answer the questions at the beginning of this review, Are you likely to use them on a painting?
