When ever my children are up set for making a mistake I always remind them that Pre- K is for making a mess and it is O. Sign up and you’ll receive classroom materials, including a poster, stickers, and an Educator’s Guide. That's the lovely life lesson behind this inspiring board book full of pop-ups, pull-the-flaps, and pretty amazing - not to mention surprising - feats of paper engineering. Unique in every respect, this book is full of pop-ups, lift-the-flaps, tears, holes, overlays, bends, smudges, and more, each demonstrating how blunders can become wonders. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

A celebration of creative thinking, Saltzberg's small-format book encourages readers to view mistakes not as failures but opportunities. From eating crayons, to scribbling, to drawing identifiable images, to dreaming up and creating more complex works of art, many kids are bitten by the creativity bug at an early age. With close to fifty picture books published, Barney Saltzberg has been traveling the world talking about creativity and where ideas come from. His books have won numerous awards, including NAPPA Gold Awards, Publishers Weekly and Kirkus Starred Reviews.I have always liked books that can help keep children from beating themselves up over silly little things. The copy we have was given to us as a gift and we loved it so much, we bought this one to give as a gift. At first, I thought that this book would be best for young children, much younger than my second-grade students.

In this book, every page begins with a ‘mistake’ that ultimately unravels, lifts out, or pulls up to become a surprising work of beauty. You could even invite students to come up to pull the different tabs to demonstrate a mess turning into a masterpiece!Kids see firsthand as they go through the book that any smudge, smear or stain can lead to something absolutely marvelous – with a little imagination. Barney Saltzberg is the author and illustrator of close to 50 books for children and has also recorded four CD’s of music for children. The smudge becomes the face of a bunny, a crumpled ball of paper turns into a lamb’s fleecy coat—celebrate the oops in life. It's a nice length too - maybe about a 5 minute read but feels substantial so it's brilliant if you want a quick bedtime story, and it's solid enough for it to be safe in the hands of a small toddler. The only thing is the ball of paper came off fairly quickly, but once I stuck it back down, we haven't had the problem since.

This is a quick read and can be read with preschoolers (though some of the flaps may be fragile), but it can also be read with elementary students. Our vision is for our organisation to acknowledge and respect the significance of place, culture, rights and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within our community. But little kids sometimes have trouble dealing with their mistakes, whether it’s a piece of artwork they’ve torn by accident, or juice they’ve spilled on their favorite drawing. This is a great production feat and lovely to look at, though it feels rather short as a reading book.My students come to me often wanting to redo a project or start their writing over on a new paper because they believe their work has been ruined by a smudge, random mark, or other mistakes. Then, encourage the students to turn the blobs of paint into something beautiful by adding their own touches on them! Inspiring and inventive, this interactive board book teaches a valuable lesson: ‘When you think you have made a mistake, think of it as an opportunity to make something beautiful!
